A New Spirit in Green: Akritas Show Their Togetherness in Larnaca

Akritas Chlorakas pushed AEK Larnaca, who were second in the First Division at the time, through 120 minutes. Akritas scored twice from open play, equalised in stoppage time and kept fighting until the final whistle. All three AEK goals came from the penalty spot.

Since the dismissal of the head coach, a new chapter has started at Akritas, and the team spirit and team performance were outstanding and encouraging against one of the top teams in the whole of Cyprus.

A team behind every player

From the dugout, the substitutes backed their teammates throughout the match. The support ran through the whole group, not just the starting eleven. Everyone had a part to play.

Assistant coach Yannis led the team in Larnaca as the players showed their unity and commitment, supporting one another through every setback.

Akritas kept fighting back

Charis Pozatzidis gave Akritas the lead in the ninth minute, pressing the goalkeeper and finishing after a loose touch. AEK equalised from the penalty spot before half-time.

When AEK scored again from the spot in stoppage time, Akritas responded. Hamed Karamoko Dramé struck in the sixth added minute to make it 2–2 and force extra time.

AEK’s third penalty settled the tie. Akritas continued to search for the equaliser, but an unfortunate missed penalty by goal-scorer Charis Pozatzidis and two late chances for Michael Dellios did not bring the result they wanted. The cup run ended in Larnaca.

Carry the spirit forward

After four league matches, Akritas sat 14th in the Second Division, with two draws and two defeats. The cup result does not change that position, but the performance gives the team something to build on.

The cup run is over. The togetherness and determination shown in Larnaca can carry into the league campaign.
